myTTY
Don’t waste your money on a TTY ever again! myTTY is a Windows computer program that can make your computer perform like a sophisticated TTY with many more features (e.g., phonebook, answer machine, caller ID, descramble, customized fonts and backgrounds). There is even a LAN version of myTTY available that can give immediate TTY access to every connected terminal.

Most TTYs cost $250-$600. They frequently break down, encounter transmission difficulties due to incompatibility with other equipment, and need recalibration from time to time. They take up counter or desk space, and (stay calm guys!) need to be dusted. myTTY is software that lets your computer act like a TTY. It allows you to make and receive calls from TTYs and other computers that have TTY software. myTTY can operate with virtually any voice modem or sound card. To operate with a sound card, you need an acoustic coupler.
It works behind firewalls.

myTTY enables you to:

  • Communicate with TTYs without the expense of buying one.
  • Communicate with deaf friends, family members, employees, and customers.
  • Communicate with relay services.
Features:
  • Alerts to incoming calls
  • Audio signals (e.g., ringing, busy) are displayed
  • Answering machine
  • Caller ID
  • Telephone book
  • Audio messages for voice callers
  • Audio detection of optimal voice modem
  • Disconnect detection
  • Automatic relay dialing
  • Save conversation
  • Copy and paste text
  • Printer support
  • Automatic line noise suppression
  • Online help documents
  • "Ungarble" capabilities
  • Customize fonts: color, size, and background
Requirements:
  • System requirement: Windows 98SE or higher
  • Intel Pentium or equivalent
  • CD-Rom Drive
  • Voice modem (required for LAN version too)
  • To make a VCO call using your computer microphone:The myTTY program allows you to pick up the telephone handset and talk while also connected to the same call through the computer via myTTY software. With a change in the myTTY telephone line hookup this can be done very easily. Thus, you will be able to send voice through the telephone handset and receive incoming text through the myTTY program.

    Follow these easy steps:

    1. The voice modem on your computer will have two phone line sockets. Use a telephone cord to connect one socket of the voice modem to the telephone wall socket.

    2. Use a second telephone cord to connect the second voice modem socket to your telephone.

    3. As an alternate procedure, you may use a telephone line splitter.

Using two telephone cords, connect the voice modem to one socket of the splitter and connect the the telephone to the other socket.

This will work anywhere in the world.
