(SR-CWHL) Books CD Brochures ID Coping with Hearing Loss: Plain Talk for Adults About Losing Your Hearing
SUSAN REZEN, Ph.D. and CARL HAUSMAN, Ph.D.
"Having a hearing loss means more than just not being able to hear well. It can bring on a wide range of problems which at first glance seem unrelated to the actual hearing loss: isolation from family and friends, a feeling of inadequacy in social situations, and a decline in self-image. But the situation is not hopeless. By learning about the causes of, and the methods used to help with hearing loss, we can actively improve not only our hearing, but our quality of life."

Getting help for these problems isn’t always easy because the millions of people affected with hearing loss often don’t understand what is wrong and don’t know how to get help. Coping With Hearing Loss explains why we lose our hearing as we grow older, how it affects our lives, and what we can do about it. This newest version includes information on the latest hearing aid technology, a whole new chapter focused solely on Tinnitus (the condition of ringing in the ears), and an appendix containing World Wide Web Resources.

  • Emotional and social problems. A special chapter just for families and friends gives insight into how to interact, support, and help each other.
  • Doctors, audiologists, dealers, dispensers. Who does what? Where do you go first? How do they work together to help you?
  • Every type of hearing aid has a photo, a description, and a discussion of advantages and disadvantages.
  • The latest telephone and television devices, pictured and described, as well as other Household Sound Devices.
  • How much does all this cost? Who pays?
  • Tips for the workplace, theaters, and other social situations.
  • Full Glossary, including definitions and pronunciation.
