Generally these systems cost less because they require minimal wiring to connect the doorbell to the transmitter.
If you have an AC outlet close to where the doorbell is (within 30 feet), this can be a good way to go. Still requires some labor and possible drilling.

Ultratec Doorbell Signaler.

Hard wired doorbell signaler to be mounted on a wall. From that runs a wire to the transmitter which needs an AC outlet. You then plug a lamp (or optional strobe) into the transmitter. Lamp will flash when the doorbell push button is activated.
